Martin Carline has been playing the piano for over 25 years, and specialises in blues and improvisation.
After teaching himself to play simple tunes on his musical pencil case from the age of 5, Martin was bought his first keyboard shortly after by his parents who were willing to see if he could go further. His parents bought him some basic music books, but unfortunately, Martin couldn’t read music. So his Dad decided to take the music book to someone he knew at work so that the notes could be written on the page, and he then also wrote the letters above the actual keys on the keyboard itself, so Martin could start to match up the notes.
At the age of 10 his parents then decided it was time he had lessons, so he began to learn classical piano. After passing the grade 8, Martin decided he wanted to expand into other areas of music. On his 21st birthday his Dad bought tickets to go and see Jools Holland in Sheffield. From that moment on he’s been playing blues and boogie woogie, and has performed all over the country.
Martin is available to teach many different styles of music, from classical, to blues and boogie woogie, ballads, movie theme songs, Coldplay, Adele, and much more.
Martin is keen to teach people, whether it’s classical and you’ve always wanted to play that difficult Beethoven piece, or whether you are an advanced player who is keen to throw the sheet music out of the window and learn how to play the blues and improvisation. You may have been playing for years and have always wanted to learn those difficult boogie woogie left hands. How about that song you’ve heard on the radio, or that movie theme tune you’ve always loved?
It doesn’t matter, Martin is happy to teach all who want to learn – and you can decide what you want to play! All ages are welcome, regardless of experience.
